Knife Handle Information Sheet
Congratulations on your New Handle!
Your knife has been fitted with a new handle crafted from beautiful Tasmanian Oak secured with Brass Pins. This combination offers an excellent balance of strength, natural beauty, and comfortable handling.
Tasmanian Oak
Tasmanian Oak is a high-density, durable hardwood known for its light color and straight grain.
Natural Variation: Since wood is a natural product, the color and grain pattern of your specific handle are unique and may change slightly over time, adding to the knife's character.
Finish: The handle has been finished with a protective oil/wax to enhance durability and moisture resistance.
Brass Pins
Brass is an alloy of copper and zinc. It is chosen for its excellent corrosion resistance and the beautiful contrast it provides against the Tasmanian Oak.
Patina: Over time, the brass pins will naturally develop a dark, rich surface layer known as a patina. This is normal and actually protects the metal underneath. You can polish the brass to restore its shine (see Care Instructions), or allow the patina to develop for a classic, antique look.
🧼 Essential Care Instructions
Following these steps will ensure your new handle remains beautiful and functional for many years.
1. Cleaning & Drying (Most Important)
❌ NEVER wash this knife in a dishwasher. The high heat, harsh detergents, and prolonged exposure to moisture will rapidly degrade both the wood and the brass.
Hand Wash Only: Clean the knife immediately after use with warm water and a mild dish soap.
Quick Dry: Wipe the knife handle and blade completely dry immediately after washing with a clean towel. Do not allow the knife to air dry or sit in standing water.
Avoid Soaking: Never soak the handle. Water penetration can cause the wood to swell, crack, and potentially loosen the handle.
2. Oil Treatment (Recommended)
To prevent the wood from drying out and cracking, and to maintain its protective barrier, periodic oiling is essential.
Frequency: Apply a protective finish every 1–3 months, or whenever the wood starts to look dry and dull.
Recommended Products: Use a food-safe oil/wax finish, such as Camellia Seed Oil, Beeswax/ Oil blends(check product instructions for food-safe applications).
Application: Apply a small amount to the handle, let it soak in for 15 minutes, and then wipe off any excess with a clean cloth.
3. Brass Maintenance (Optional)
If you prefer the pins to remain bright and shiny instead of developing a patina:
Polish: Apply a small amount of household brass cleaner (or a paste of baking soda water) to the brass pins.
Buff: Use a soft cloth to gently rub and polish the brass, then wipe clean.
Warning: Be careful to avoid getting strong chemical cleaners on the wooden handle.
⚠️ Handle Replacement Guarantee
Workmanship: This replacement handle is guaranteed against defects in workmanship for a period of 12 months.
Exclusions: This guarantee does not cover damage resulting from misuse, neglect, failure to follow the care instructions (especially dishwashing), or the natural wear and tear of the materials.
