A Great Privilege
Sharpening Knives for the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Foundation
At Master Sharp, every knife we sharpen carries a story — from the hands that prepare the food to the meals that bring people together. But few stories resonate as deeply as those from the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Foundation. Having the opportunity to sharpen the knives used in their kitchens is both a privilege and an honour.
I’ve been a big fan of Stephanie Alexander for many years — going right back to my apprentice days. Her approach to food, community, and education has always inspired me. During my time studying at William Angliss Institute, I was fortunate enough to have a brief moment working alongside her. She probably didn’t realise it at the time, but that experience left a lasting impression on me. Seeing her passion and dedication up close helped shape the way I think about food, respect for ingredients, and the role of good tools in the kitchen.
The Foundation’s work — teaching children the joy of growing, harvesting, preparing, and sharing fresh, seasonal food — aligns perfectly with what sharp knives represent: care, respect, and craftsmanship. A sharp knife doesn’t just make cooking easier; it encourages mindfulness and pride in the process of preparing food.
When we visit Kitchen Garden schools, we’re reminded that good food education starts with good tools. Restoring each blade to its best edge means helping teachers and students cook with precision and confidence. It’s a small part of a much bigger picture — one that inspires healthy habits, sustainability, and community connection.
We’re proud to play our part in keeping these kitchens running smoothly. Knowing that our sharpening helps support lessons that shape the next generation of cooks, gardeners, and food lovers makes every pass of the whetstone meaningful.
Sharp knives. Fresh food. Inspired learning.
That’s something worth celebrating.
